Diploma in General Nursing & Midwifery
Affiliated to: Karnataka State Diploma in Nursing Examination Board, Bangalore & approved by Govt. of Karnataka.
Duration: 3½ years.
Eligibility for Admission:
- Minimum and Maximum age for admission will be 15 and 35 years respectively. For ANM/LHV, there is no age bar.
- Minimum Education:
- 10+2 class passed or its equivalent preferably with Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) subjects with aggregate of 45% marks.
- Those who have cleared 10+2 vocational ANM course (revised after 2001) from the school recognized by the Indian Nursing Council.
- ANM training i.e. 10+1 years training should also have passed +2 or its equivalent examination.
- Admission of students shall be once in a year.
- Students shall be medically fit.
- In addition to the above admission procedure can be laid down by concerned state nursing council, Nursing Examination Boards (S.I.B.E.,M.I.B.E.,C.M.A.I.)
B. Sc. Nursing (Basic)
Affiliated to: Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, Bangalore.
Duration: 4 years.
Eligibility for Admission: A candidate seeking admission should have
- Passed the two-year pre-university examination or equivalent as recognized by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka with science subjects, viz., Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
- Obtained atleast 45% of the total marks in science subjects of the qualifying examination. For Sc/St 40%.
- Admission of students shall be once in a year.
- Completed 17 years of age at the time of admission or reach this age on or before 31st december of the year of admission.
Internal Assesment: There shall be an internal assessment which follows broadly the principles enunciated by the University for each subject for which 20% of the marks are set apart and there will be a minimum of two assignments and three periodically tests in every subjects each years to assess the progress of the candidates. If a candidate fails in an examination, his/her internal assessment shall be assessed again only if he/she is a regular student for the second attempt and marks whichever are higher will be considered.
Criteria for passing :
- Main Subjects: A candidate is declared to have passed the examination in a subject, if she/he secure 50% of the marks in theory and 50% in practical separately. For a pass in theory, candidates has to secure a minimum of 40% marks in the University conducted written examination and 50% aggregate i.e., marks scored in the University conducted written examination and internal assessment (theory) added together and for a pass in practicals, a candidate has to secure a minimum of 40% of the marks in University conducted practical examination and internal assessment (practical) added together.
- Subsidiary Subjects: The examination of subsidiary subjects shall be conducted by the respetive colleges. For a pass in subsidiary subjects, a candidate shall secure 35% of the total marks prescribed for the subjects and has to pass all the subsdiary subjects before appearing for the final year University exams.
Post Basic B. Sc. Nursing

Duration: 2 years.
Intake: 40 students.
Commencement: From the Month of August.
The main purpose this undergraduate degree in Nursing is to provide an educational programme through which the graduates will be prepared to assume responsibility in the primary, secondary and tertiary care of people as professional nurses. It is expected that graduates are capable of teaching and supervising appropriate nursing and health care in different settings and participate in the administration of nursing service and education.
Eligibility for Admission: The candidate should have passed Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery from an Institute recognized by the Indian Nursing Council. The candidates should be registered Nurse and registered Midwife(or alternative registration in lieu of midwifery for male nurses) with any State Nursing Council.
Scheme of Examination: The University shall conduct two examinations annually at an interval of not less than 4 to 6 as notified by the university time to time. A candidate who satifies the requirement of attendance, progress and conduct as stipulated by the University shall be eligible to appear for the university examination. Certificate to that effect shall be produced from the Head of the institution along with the application for examinaiton and the prescribed fee.
Schedule of Examination: For the Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing course, there shall be two university examinaitions, one at the end of I year of the Course and the other at the end of the II year of the course.
